Village of Mundelein and Mundelein Park District Team-Up to Open New Park—Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Planned

Mundelein Park & Recreation District will host a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 as they officially open Holcomb Park. Located at the corner of Goodwin Place and NW Holcomb Drive, the new park is just under one-half acre and has two pieces of playground equipment, one designed for 2-5 year olds and one designed for 5-12 year olds. The park also has swings, spring toys, diggers and benches for the community’s enjoyment.

A portion of the property was acquired as a gift from the Pape family. A bench located at the northeast corner of the park is dedicated to the memory of Vince Pape. The remaining piece of property had been abandoned by the owner and with assistance from the Village of Mundelein, the Park District acquired the property.

The Park District reimbursed Mundelein for the direct expenses related to the property and had the home and garage on the property demolished in early 2018. The park was designed by HR Green Development (landscape architect) and the work was performed by Copenhaver Construction.

“The Holcomb neighborhood has been supportive and encouraged the Park District to find a spot for a park in the neighborhood,” said Margaret Resnick, Executive Director, Mundelein Park District, “The residents of this area will no longer have to drive to visit a park. We are thrilled to open this Holcomb Park in time for the warmer weather.”
