Public Works & Engineering Awarded ComEd Energy Efficiency Grant

The Mundelein Public Works Facility Maintenance team recently received a grant from the ComEd Energy Efficiency Program. The Village of Mundelein was awarded just over $12,700. The grant enables the Facility Maintenance staff to purchase new indoor and outdoor LED fixtures, occupancy sensors, and daylight controls. These controls will help to reduce the Village’s energy consumption.

Last year, PW & E Facility Maintenance staff converted 517 interior fixtures and 10 parking lot fixtures to LED at Mundelein’s two fire stations. The combined energy reductions from both stations is a 60% wattage reduction. The new LED lights also have dimming capabilities which will further contribute to energy reductions.

“We are very appreciative of programs like this that allow us to move forward with projects that often end up cascading down the priority list due to funding limitations. By partnering with Com Ed, we are able to complete a comprehensive retrofit of the lighting of both our Fire Stations that provides up-to-date technology as well as reduce energy consumption,” said Adam Boeche, Director, Public Works and Engineering.

The ComEd Energy Efficiency program helps public sector and income-eligible customers manage their energy use and save on their electric bills. Thanks to the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA), ComEd has launched an energy efficiency plan that will invest up to $1.4 billion over four years to substantially expand and create new energy efficiency offerings.
