Public Works to Conduct Preventive Sewer Maintenance

In an effort to perform preventive sewer maintenance throughout the Village, Mundelein Public Works crews are continuing to clean the sanitary sewers. This week and continuing until year-end, crews will be working in the following areas: Diamond Lake Rd., Pleasure Dr., Shadydell Ave., Longwood Terrace, Edgar Allen Poe Ln., Emmerson Ln., Whitter Ln., Longfellow Ln.

This preventive work will significantly reduce the possibility for any sewer back-up and related problems. Please take note—this cleaning process can sometimes cause a vacuum in the system resulting in water in toilets and P-traps (S shaped bend in pipes below sinks and floor drains) to empty completely. Mundelein Public Works recommends that during this routine maintenance, toilet lids should be kept closed and floor drains should be covered to also prevent possible splashing.

Residents who have questions about this are welcome to contact Paul Cacioppo, Mundelein Wastewater Superintendent at 847-949-3275 or by email: pcacioppo@mundelein.org or Rob Greenfield, Assistant Wastewater Superintendent at 847-949-3264 or by email rgreenfield@mundelein.org.
