Mundelein Public Works Staff to Conduct Spring Hydrant Flushing

Fire hydrants throughout the Village of Mundelein-owned water distribution system, will be flushed between mid-April through late May, weather permitting. This annual task is necessary to ensure that every fire hydrant works properly and to clear the water distribution system of unwanted debris and sediment.

After the hydrants in your neighborhood are flushed, please check your tap water before using it for cooking, drinking, or doing laundry as some rust or other stain producing particles may remain. This discoloration only affects the appearance of the water and does not affect water quality. No health hazards are associated with discolored water from hydrant flushing. The rusty tinges should disappear within a few minutes if you leave the tap on.

Also, check for discolored water before using the washing machine. PLEASE NOTE: If your laundry becomes stained, DO NOT PUT YOUR LAUNDRY IN THE DRYER. Immediately rewash the clothes. If water pressure or water volume seems low after flushing has been completed, check your faucet screens for trapped particles.

For more information about hydrant flushing, please call 847-949-3273. Notice signs will be placed in neighborhoods as flushing occurs.
