Water Distribution

Water Distribution - Rob Haley, Water Superintendent

Water Distribution is responsible for providing high quality, potable water to more than 31,000 customers. The Village receives Lake Michigan water as part of its membership in the Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA) at four different stations located throughout the Village.

This division is also responsible for maintaining the following:

117 miles of water main

1,800 hydrants

7 elevated and ground reservoirs

Water valve exercising and repair

Water sampling and testing

Leak Detection

Meter installation and replacement

Pressure Reducing Valve inspections

The average daily use of the community is roughly 2.6 million gallons of water per day. The Village maintains a high level of storage within its seven reservoirs, with a capacity of 6.5 million gallons. This exceeds the industry standard of two days of storage within the system.

Water Main Breaks

Due to the freeze-thaw cycles, old age, and other factors, water main can suffer a breaks in the pipe network. If you believe a main break is in your vicinity, please contact the Water office during regular business hours at 847-949-3273. If you call weekdays during non-business hours, weekends, or holidays, please contact the Police non-emergency number at (847) 968-4600.

Water Billing

The Water Distribution Division coordinates water billing issues and account transfers with the Finance Department. To schedule a turn-on or shut-off, water account or billing questions, please contact the Finance Department at (847) 949-3245.

Water Meters

In 2000, the Village installed meters that are capable of being read through radio transmission rather than manually. Water Distribution staff also provides free consultation about leakage within your home or service line. If you notice a leak, have a problem with your meter, or have a question about your water, please feel free to complete an online Request for Service or contact the Water Distribution Division at (847) 949-3273.

Water Conservation

In a community effort to conserve water, the Village implements a lawn sprinkling restriction from May-September. Watering is permitted between 5-10 a.m. or 6-11 p.m. East of Route 45 on even calendar days and west of Route 45 on odd calendar days. Outdoor water use is allowed through a hose with a shut-off nozzle throughout the restriction season. Newly planted landscaping may be watered at any time on the day of installation. Thereafter, newly planted landscaping may be watered on any day, but only during the permitted hours for up to three weeks from date of planting.
